LOCAL WINE INDUSTRY PIONEERS CELEBRATE FIVE YEARS OF REDEFINING THE LANDSCAPE AND CULTURE OF THE WINE INDUSTRY

The first of its kind wine brand in the D.C. area commemorates its journey from just an idea to a now popular pour

(Capitol Heights, Md.)-- Rose Garden Wines, based in Prince Georges County, Maryland, honors how far it has come in the five years during which the brand was founded and evolved. At the height of the COVID19 pandemic, two friends isolated from one another turned an ordinary video call into the springboard for the business they never previously imagined they would create. Joy Sheppard and Brittany Woodland began designing the concept for their business starting with what would set them apart and make their products stand out amongst an emerging number of new variations and concepts of the timeless libation.

As the first Black-Women-owned wine brand out of Prince Georges County, Rose Garden Wines doesn’t stop at making and selling great wine, it prioritizes making wine education and knowledge more accessible across all demographics. “People who are new to wine sometimes find it intimidating. They don’t know where to start and they might not yet know exactly what they like,” said Woodland. “Beyond selling a case or a bottle, we want wine-drinkers both experienced and novice to feel like they belong and know that you don’t have to be a sommelier or otherwise have extensive experience with wine to enjoy it.”

Rose Garden Wines launched its first product, Rose Garden Red, in August of 2025, and immediately wine sellers began purchasing cases to sell to their customers. As Woodland and Shepparddescribe it on their website, Rose Garden Red “is a rich, full-bodied red wine with herbal notes of cinnamon, peppercorn, and clove, balanced by dark cherry and ripe plum. The wine’s complex spice and silky finish make it a perfect companion for charcuterie boards, grilled vegetables, and cozy conversations.” The wine’s grapes are sourced from Spain  and carefully fermented with an infusion of rose petals to achieve the balanced and inviting flavor that has made it so popular.

“It has been exciting to see how well received our wine has been. It can be a bit scary as newcomers in the industry to unveil something that has truly been a labor of love because you want everyone else to love and enjoy it as much as you do,” said Sheppard. “This is only the beginning and while it has taken five painstaking years to get here, we’ve learned a great deal and we are ready to continue to offer unique blends that any wine consumer can appreciate.”

Rose Garden Wines are not only meant to be consumed, but drinking a glass should feel like a a satisfying experience. Up next for Sheppard and Woodland is the introduction of their white wine blend to the market projected to take place in the spring of 2026.

Consumers can purchase Rose Garden Wines  online at www.rosegardenwines.com. A list of brick-and-mortar stores where Rose Garden Red can be purchased is also available on the company’s website.
